Understanding the wall system
ICF walls are formed with interlocking insulating blocks or panels that remain in place after concrete is poured. The forms create the shape of the wall, hold the concrete and become part of the finished insulated assembly. Reinforcing steel, openings, penetrations and attachment points must be planned before and during the pour.
An ICF house is not simply a conventional home with a different insulation product. The wall thickness, window and door details, floor connections, exterior finish attachment and mechanical routing all need to be coordinated with the system.
